Poetica Petit #29 – feat: Paris Rosemont + Peter Hollo

Let’s end this year on a buzz! A very dynamic night is set for Dec 5 at Poetica Petit at Woollahra Gallery. I’ve seen Paris Rosemont perform live just once a few years ago but it has stayed with me all that time. She’s going to be our feature poet for our final Petit. Joining Paris is cellist Peter Hollo (who I must say I have been trying to get to Poetica for years!). Turns out they know each other and even perform together. Plus Peter is not the kind of cellist you might be used to. Let’s just say his performance requires electricity. (bios below)

Then there’s the grand old open mic. Wine, cheese, kombucha. And maybe something sweet to end the year that was.

Paris Rosemont is a performance poet who delights audiences with a devious undercurrent bubbling just beneath her demure exterior. She has graced stages at events and festivals both nationally and internationally. Paris’s edgy poetry has been widely published and awarded, and her debut poetry collection Banana Girl (WestWords, 2023) was shortlisted by the Association for the Study of Australian Literature for the 2024 Mary Gilmore Award.  In the words of the judges, Paris’s poetry: ‘pushes at the margins with slam ferocity and formal exactitude. At times it feels a verbal and emotional striptease… It’s acrobatic, performative poetry — a high-wire language circus — as well as decorous in its literary invocations…an exciting blend of registers: defiantly revolutionary’.

Peter Hollo is cellist in FourPlay String Quartet, Tangents, Black Aleph, Close To Forever and many other ensembles. His solo work has gravitated from laptop-based beatmaking in the late-’90s to live cello looping and processing, with a solid base in improvisation.
