Then – with much excitement and joy – The Alphabet of Women returns for a retrospective at Poetica Petit – a night of poetry and conversation in celebration of International Women’s Day and women’s poetry.

The Alphabet of Women (Ginninderra Press, 2022) brings together twenty-six eclectic alliterating poets to tell the story of woman through the sounds and cadences of the alphabet. From rage to tenderness, politics to the body, motherhood to daughterhood, poets were invited to tell it like it is and follow their heart. The anthology, edited by Poetica’s Miriam Hechtman, is powerful in its diverse expressions of what womanhood means and acknowledges in both subtle and formidable ways how multifaceted and bravely unifying this story is.

Now, 4 years since its publication, 6 years since its first performance, and 8 years since Miriam Hechtman penned the first poem which led to the anthology, several of the Alphabet poets are returning to the spotlight to perform their poems once again. They will then join Miriam for a panel conversation about where they and the poems are today. This will be a night of reflection, women’s stories and great poetry!

Poets on the night include: Dai Moret, Erica Hacker, Ginette Ball, Jessica Chapnik Kahn, Stacey Cotter Manière, Joanne Fedler, Limor Fayena, Lou Steer, Anne Casey, and Miriam Hechtman.
