What’s in a lyric? How do you go from words to music? What makes a song? “You work on your songs, but your songs also work on you... slowly you start to become some place that songs are passing through.” Tom Waits So the cake topper I ordered with a photo of Mary Oliver and Percy on it - did not arrive. Left to my own devices and a few letter writing tricks I learnt at 15 working at an ice cream store - I decorated the cake with words by Mary. I mean, what better on a cake than lines by Mary Oliver? And as you can see it turned out just fine. Don’t miss this. We are celebrating big. Remember, JOY was not meant to be a crumb. I used to want to paint this on my wall. I still want to. Your one wild and precious life. Do we need a reminder? Sooooo looking forward to having flautist @chloe.at.play perform at Poetica Petit on 10th September for Mary Oliver's birthday celebration at @woollahragallery . It's going to be a deep dive into all things Mary. Bring along your favourite Mary Oliver poems to read in the open mic. Also bring your original Mary inspired poems too if you'd like to share them too. We are going to honour Mary as best we can. Our dear and delightful friends at @gertrudeandalice will be there too on the night with lots of Mary Oliver books for purchase. SUNDAY yoga and poetry We cannot wait to celebrate Mary! On September 10, on what would have been Mary Oliver’s 91st birthday, we are going to honour and celebrate the poet and the poems. With special musical guest @chloe.at.play . Not one, but TWO writing workshops coming up this weekend. Poems as Prompts this Friday at 10am at @163clovelly .
