this week at poetica

This week we have A Whole Album and we have Poems as Prompts. Join us!

When’s the last time you listened to a whole album from start to finish? A Whole Album is a night for listening in high fidelity with no interruptions. It’s an opportunity to sit with others and enjoy the album in its entirety, the way it was meant to be heard. Hosted by music and audio lover Guy Shalvi. Doolittle is the second studio album by the American alternative rock band Pixies, released on April 17, 1989, on 4AD. The album was an instant critical success and became the band’s breakthrough album.

Join us for our fifteenth listening night. https://events.humanitix.com/a-whole-album-june-23-pixies-doolittle

Feature album: PIXIES – DOOLITTLE

Date: June 23 Time: 7.30pm Address: 163 Clovelly Rd, Randwick Sound System: Esoteric amp, Harbeth speakers. On vinyl. Light refreshments will be served.

Then on Friday 26th June – Join Poetica’s Miriam Hechtman for a poetry workshop that uses poems as prompts.

There is something about sitting and writing in community. It’s a different kind of writing experience – the discipline of time, the engagement with participants, the sounds of writing, and the opportunity to share words with others. Miriam will bring a selection of poems to this session. She will read a poem aloud and then participants choose a ‘golden line’ or theme or form from the poem to prompt them to write their own poem. Then there is quiet writing time. Then a chance to share your poem. Then on to the next poem. And repeat.

Join us for a cup of tea (or very good coffee from across the road) and let’s write. https://events.humanitix.com/poems-as-prompts-writing-workshop-18
