Very excited to have these two beings feature at Poetica Petit this Thursday night. And there’s the OPEN MIC! As we near the end of the year it’s wonderful to come together and listen to each other’s stories, poems, songs. It’s a gentle way to connect and take stock of the year that was.

RHONDA COWELL is a spoken word poet based in Sydney, born in Jamaica and raised in south east London from the age of four. Her work sits in the intersectionality of Blackness, motherhood and womanhood, exploring the tensions between them. She examines this through her own story of immigration and experience of raising her daughter, using poetry to make sense of both. Relatively new to Sydney’s poetry scene, she has made waves featuring at Sydney Poetry Lounge and twice at Bread & Butter, the first poet to do so within a single year. She recently competed in the Australian Poetry Slam Sydney Final in October, weeks before welcoming a new addition to the family.
WILL PREDDEY is a Sydney-based songwriter working somewhere between folk and funk, with a long-standing soft spot for The Beatles, Billy Joel, Leon Bridges, Sam Fender and Lizzy McAlpine. He has five songs out so far, and a few have found their way onto community radio. The songs are personal, mostly. Relationships, the way he sees the world, and the odd thing he’s still figuring out. Others exist purely because making music is fun. Releases under his own name are the songs he’d want in his own playlists, so don’t expect one tidy sound. Some are polished, some are experiments, and some are proof-of-concept tracks that turned out better than the concept. It’s a small collection of ideas, tried out in public.
